Resilience & Sustainability LMC – Discussion Highlights
2024
- August 2024 New Member Introductions & Planning Discussion
- June 2024 Tour: City of Austin Blackwater Pilot Building with Katherine Jashinksi
- May 2024 Tour: Whisper Valley | Gained understanding of how geothermal can be efficient and affordable when deployed at a district scale, as well as the technical workings of providing geothermal to hundreds of homes.
- April 2024 Tour: UT Dell Medical with Jonathan Orgen (Siglo) | Critical to the success of sensitive urban landscapes such as this is (1) lots of Construction Observation to help guide the landscape contractors and (2) commitment to ongoing Management by the client. The result is a stunning landscape that evolves over time, getting replanted as needed to help it thrive overall. For example, little bluestem was beautiful but getting too wet to thrive, so after 2 years it was replanted with a mix of native species more suited to the particular microclimate of each section.
- February 2024 Presenter: Corey Squire, Author of People Planet Design | “How can each of us put high-performance design into practice through our organization and our work? Achieving high-performance design is all about setting clear priorities: is this project more about materials, affordability, etc?”
