Austin and surrounding communities continue to be challenged by the difficult issue of homelessness. Many organizations have been formed over the years to provide various services for diverse segments of the homeless population, yet challenges persist. ULI Austin’s May breakfast panel will discuss options, strategies and services that can help provide successful housing solutions for our homeless population. Recognizing the inherent limitations that local governments face in implementing solutions, the panel will also consider how public/private partnerships – formal or informal – might provide more wholistic solutions. The Cady Lofts development offers a model for addressing the issue from the private side, while the North Bridge and South Bridge facilities have created a new level of support and services for unsheltered residents. With more exciting projects on the horizon we are potentially approaching a turning point in successfully addressing this important issue. Join ULI Austin for our May breakfast to hear from those working directly towards reducing the homeless population in Austin and how the real estate community can help.
