ULI AUSTIN ANNOUNCES TERRY MITCHELL, PRESIDENT OF MOMARK DEVELOPMENT, AS RECIPIENT OF 2025 VISION AWARD
Vision Award to be presented at ULI Austin’s 2025 Impact Awards event on Wednesday, August 27 at Austin PBS at ACC Highland
AUSTIN, Texas – June 26, 2025 – ULI Austin, an education, research and resource organization focused on shaping the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide, today announced that Terry Mitchell, President of Momark Development, has been named the recipient of its prestigious annual Vision Award.
The ULI Austin Vision Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in his or her lifetime within the Austin region. The Vision Award represents the highest honor one can receive from ULI Austin, and it speaks to an individual’s impact not just within the real estate industry but to the community as a whole. Winners are selected annually by the ULI Austin Governance Committee and represent a diverse range of sectors, including real estate, finance, public service, not-for-profit and education.
Mitchell is heavily involved in the planning and development of various residential and mixed-use real estate developments involving approximately 6,500 residential units and related mixed-uses. Projects include The Austonian, the Denizen, Plum Creek, Chestnut Commons, Edgewick, Gabardine, Macmora Cottages and The Sanctuary Lofts. His focus is largely set upon urban residential or mixed-use projects that create unique communities offering extraordinary lifestyles and distinctive personalities.
“Terry’s blend of development expertise, legal acumen, policy influence, and approachability has made him a key visionary in creating real, connected communities for the people of Central Texas,” said Heidi Cisneros, Principal at Structures and current ULI Austin District Council Chair. “His strategic mindset and community-oriented approach have allowed him to tackle complex challenges with clarity and purpose, always keeping people at the center of the solution. Known for his ability to build consensus and foster genuine collaboration, Terry has brought together diverse stakeholders to achieve shared goals that elevate our region.”
Prior to his arrival at Momark, Mitchell served in a number of management positions including as Vice President of Milburn Homes (D.R. Horton, Inc. division). He has developed over 20,000 residential units and over $1.8 billion in residential community value during his 20-plus years in real estate.
Mitchell is very active in the real estate community. In addition to his contributions to ULI Austin, Mitchell serves as past President of the Real Estate Council of Austin, and on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for 13 years. He has also dedicated a great deal of time and effort to numerous community causes, having served on the Board of Hill Country Conservancy, the Congress for the New Urbanism Central Texas Chapter, and the Austin Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for both HousingWorks Austin and Capital Metro.
“I previously had the opportunity to work with Terry as co-chair of the ULI Austin Housing and Community Development product council, and he brought a wealth of insight and information based on his extensive industry experience that benefited all members. In particular, Terry advanced the connection between housing affordability and traffic congestion in a way I hadn’t considered before,” said Dave Stauch, Founding Principal of CPM Texas and member of ULI Austin’s Governance Committee. “I’ve also personally worked with Terry on several business opportunities and always came away impressed by his integrity and professionalism.”
Mitchell received his Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas in Austin. He also received a Master of Business Administration from Saint Edward’s University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio. He practiced law in Texas and California.
“Terry’s work embodies the understanding that the built environment isn’t just buildings, but also transportation, open spaces, and community connectivity,” said Paulette Gibbins, Executive Director of ULI Austin. “He is especially passionate about the connection between transportation and affordability and has provided many educational presentations highlighting this link. He gives his time not only to real estate organizations, but the CapMetro board as well. We are grateful for his service to the community and pleased to recognize him as the newest recipient of the ULI Austin Vision Award.”
The Vision Award will be presented to Mitchell at ULI Austin’s 2025 Impact Awards event, to be held on Wednesday, August 27 at the Austin PBS headquarters on the Austin Community College Highland Campus.
