ULI AUSTIN NAMES REAL ESTATE VETERAN DAVID STEINWEDELL
AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
AUSTIN, Texas – Dec. 3, 2013 – The Austin District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) is proud to announce David H. Steinwedell, a 27-year veteran of the commercial real estate industry, is the organization’s new executive director.
A long-time member of ULI and a past advisory committee member of the ULI Atlanta District Council, Steinwedell will lead the 430-member Austin District Council to increase its impact and involvement in the dramatic growth of the Austin market.
“The Urban Land Institute and particularly the Austin District Council have done a remarkable job of convening local real estate leaders together to create better places for our community, and I’m so pleased to play a significant role in continuing that mission here in Central Texas,” said Steinwedell.
Steinwedell was most recently the managing partner of Stoneforge Advisors, LLC, an Austin-based real estate and advisory firm. Previously, he was the managing partner and investment committee chairman of AIC Ventures, where he oversaw more than $380 million in acquisitions of long-term industrial and office sale-leasebacks.
He also served in roles as president and chief investment officer of Wells Fund Management, completing more than $10 billion in transactions, and in executive positions with Jones Lang LaSalle, Cushman Realty Corporation and Aetna Life and Casualty. Steinwedell earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. He is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin and a past board member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM).
“David Steinwedell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him to ULI,” said ULI Austin Board Chair and Catellus Development Corporation Executive Vice President Greg Weaver. “He’ll bring a new perspective to the organization as we expand our focus from membership growth to additional benefits and services for our current membership.”
Steinwedell replaces David Knoll, who served as ULI Austin’s director for past two years and who successfully helped lead the Austin District Council through the nation’s most economic and real estate downturn and increase overall local membership by 65 percent over pre-recession levels. Knoll announced in August his resignation to pursue other real estate opportunities and has since joined Ryan Companies in Austin as its director of development.
“Dave [Knoll] has done a phenomenal job of increasing our membership ranks while providing all of our members high-quality programs and services,” said Weaver. “All of us on the board of ULI Austin believe David [Steinwedell] is up to the task of building upon a fantastic foundation established by Dave [Knoll].”
