    Supply chain issues are affecting the entire US and unfortunately Austin is not insulated from these disruptions. Construction and building materials are in high demand but in short supply creating double-digit price spikes for building components since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in 2020. These forces are driving up overall project and rebuilding costs in Central Texas. The global shortage in chip manufacturing is also challenging commercial real estate’s increasing utilization of “smart” building technologies. Supply chain issues are obviously affecting much more than the construction industry and are being felt at the community and consumer level as well. ULI Austin’s March luncheon will host a unique panel to dive deeper into current supply chain obstacles, effects, and what could improve throughput.
