     Austin is pursuing a redevelopment of the existing Convention Center, with expansion across the board in meeting, exhibit, multipurpose and ballroom spaces from a total of 376,000 in rentable square feet to the approximately 700,000 rentable square feet. The panel discussion will address the current scope and program of the project as well as its integration with the surrounding community. At a high level, the presentation will also include the project schedule, considerations of the impact during construction and the financial structure of the deal.

    Speakers

    Trisha Tatro

    Director, Austin Convention Center Department City of Austin

    Trisha Tatro is the Director of the Austin Convention Center Department (ACCD). She previously served as the Assistant Director since 2018. As Assistant Director, her duties included administration over Facility Operations, Sustainability, Capital Improvement Projects, Event Utilities, Building Maintenance and Parking Operation departments, both at the Austin Convention Center (ACC) and the Palmer Events Center (PEC). Tatro managed the $74 million Capital Improvement Project budget for the Austin Convention Center Department that includes the Marshalling Yard and Warehouse design projects and the exterior restoration of the Castleman Bull House. Another successful project led by Tatro was a joint effort in completing the walkways that now connect the Hilton and Fairmont Hotels to the convention center. Tatro joined the department in 2002 as an intern while working on her Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Texas at Austin. Since she has moved up the ladder as an Event Coordinator, Senior Event Coordinator, Event Coordinator Supervisor, Events Services Manager, Convention Facility Manager and as the ACCD Assistant Director.

    Nikelle Meade

    Husch Blackwell

    Nikelle Meade represents clients in all aspects of local government and real estate with an emphasis in land use and real estate development, public-private partnerships, procurement, and governmental affairs. Her work includes zoning, permitting, land use planning, development application processing and representation before local city councils, business development, relationship management, economic development, zoning boards of adjustment, planning commissions, local governing bodies and state and local agencies. In short, she helps clients navigate real estate development projects through governmental approvals. She also has vast experience in commercial transactions including purchases and sales, leases, public financing and general contracts. Before joining Husch Blackwell, Nikelle was a partner at Brown McCarroll. Nikelle is a member of the firm’s Executive Board.

    Sheryl Sculley

    City Manager, City of San Antonio

    Sheryl Sculley served as city manager of San Antonio, Texas, from 2005-2019. In that position, she was the chief executive officer overseeing 13,000 employees, an annual operating and capital budget of $2.8 billion, and a city population of 1.5 million residents. Sculley proposed the three largest bond programs in city history totaling $2 billion including 450 construction projects for streets, sidewalks, drainage, parks, libraries, senior centers, fire stations and museums. All three programs were overwhelmingly approved by San Antonio voters and the projects were executed with precision—on time and within budget. Sheryl has worked in city management for over 40 years. She served in leadership roles in Phoenix, Arizona and Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is a fellow in the National Academy of Public Administration and has been an adjunct professor at the LBJ School of Public Policy at The University of Texas in Austin. Sheryl served on the United Way boards in all three cities and is currently working with the United Way 2019 campaign as well as assisting numerous other non-profit organizations.

    Tom Noonan

    President and CEO, Visit Austin

    Tom Noonan brings 28 years of experience within the hospitality industry to the Bureau, most recently as the President and CEO of Visit Baltimore. Noonan oversaw the team responsible for promoting the Baltimore region as a destination for conventions, meetings, and leisure visits. Under his leadership, Visit Baltimore produced historic booking levels including six consecutive years of record-setting sales between 450,000 to 525,000 future room nights annually in each Fiscal Year 2009–2014. He was also a primary architect in the creation of the Baltimore Convention & Tourism Board, which resulted in a more seamless and effective sales process. Prior to his role at Visit Baltimore, Noonan spent nearly two decades at the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau as a sales, services and convention marketing executive. He is a second generation leader in the hospitality industry and is a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Noonan started in his official capacity as Visit Austin's President and CEO in May 2016.
