Project Connect is a transformative high-capacity transit plan adopted by Austin voters in 2020. The Project Connect System Plan is a multi-modal concept consisting of light rail system, a subway downtown, and new MetroRapid bus lines to improve the speed, reliability and safety of Austin’s entire transportation system. Enhanced transit corridors and hubs will unlock significant opportunity for new Transit Oriented Developments (TOD) in the Austin region. Austin Transit Partnership is working with CapMetro and the City of Austin to ensure this new infrastructure elevates Austin’s overall quality of life, and emphasizes anti-displacement, affordability, and transit-supportive development. The Equitable Transit Oriented Development (ETOD) framework will play an important role in the design and delivery of Project Connect’s transit network, which offers a once in a generation opportunity for Austin to establish world class connectivity between housing, business and entertainment districts. Our panel will provide an update on where Project Connect stands today, and how the real estate community can actively participate in ETOD place making.
