    This year, two cross-functional teams of Young Leaders will go head-to-head in a friendly competition to conceptualize proposals for the redevelopment of Austin Police Department Headquarters at the intersection of Interstate 35 and East 8th Street in Austin, TX. 
     
    The 2.7441 acres of land at the southwest corner of IH 35 frontage road and East 8th Street, Austin, TX 78701, is approximately 0.7 miles southeast of the State Capitol dome. The city of Austin has utilized the site as Central Command for the Austin Police Department since 1982. The existing headquarter building totals approximately 65,000 SF plus an attached 3-story parking deck and a Police Patrol Building along Waller Creek. Although the building has been home to Austin’s Police Department for nearly 40 years the city will consider proposals for redevelopment of the property as part of their periodic realignment of municipal facilities. The property sits along the burgeoning Waterloo Greenway and is ripe for rejuvenation.
